I always surprise people when I tell them that I was introduced to #menswear via vintage shopping. At the time, I was on a college student budget so I built my wardrobe on pieces that I found in thrift stores, consignment shops, and vintage boutiques. Not only was it the most affordable option for me, but I was able to find rare and unique pieces at a fraction of the price!
Since then, almost 5 years have past and I still find myself incorporating vintage accessories into my daily outfits. I actually like to call it mixing vintage and modern.
So here is one way to incorporate some vintage accessories into your outfit!
Vintage Accessories For The Win
If you’re a longtime reader of the blog, you already know that my most consistent piece of style advice is to keep things simple. However, while some people enjoy keeping their outfits simple and classic, others prefer to mix it up so that they can really show off their personal aesthetic.
That’s when vintage accessories like a pair of silk braces/suspenders come into play. In my opinion, it actually provides the best of both worlds. For instance, without those braces this outfit is fairly simple.
Even though the green trousers provide that ubiquitous pop of color that we all love during the Spring and summer months, it’s still a relatively simple outfit. However, these vintage braces help take this outfit to the next level.
When it comes to incorporating vintage accessories into your outfit, it really depends on two things; the type accessory and of course the outfit. Some outfits don’t need any accessories at all. In fact, I’ve seen some people ruin outfits with a bunch of unnecessary accessories.
I think we all know a guy that wears way too many lapel pins, a bow tie, a pocket watch, and maybe even a pair of vintage shades (all at the same time).
Pro Tip: Always remember that less is more.
