When I came across this picture of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on Instagram, the first thing that stood out to me was not the bright orange 2015 McLaren 650S or the beautiful palm trees in the background. Instead, it was the impeccable fit of his trousers. Personally, I prefer to wear my trousers with a slim taper and no break. However, The Rock is definitely making a strong case for the full cut trouser.
When it comes to trousers and fit, it is definitely a matter of preference and personal style. Like I previously mentioned, I prefer a slim taper with no break on all my trousers because it compliments my physique. However, taller guys like Dwayne Johnson tend to gravitate towards a fuller cut with either a half or full break. Don’t ask me why, that’s just something I’ve noticed over the years since I’ve studying menswear and men’s style in general.
Here is another example of a taller gentleman sporting a full cut trouser with a quarter break. Dr. André L. Churchwell is a Professor of Medicine (Cardiology), Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, Professor of Biomedical Engineering, and Senior Associate Dean for Diversity Affairs at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He has also been a long time supporter of the full cut trouser. In fact, some traditionalist might even say that this is the way a pair of trousers should fit.
NBA veteran Dahntay Jones is also making a strong case for the fuller cut trouser with a half break. Over the past five years, the NBA has become somewhat of an ongoing fashion show, thanks to NBA Elite Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Russell Westbrook. Therefore, Dahntay Jones has been working with one of my style icons, Angel Ramos to enhance his personal style to help him stay fresh on and off the court.
Lastly, here is Ashley Owens, founder of Grandpa Style,
sporting one of her signature full cut trousers with no break. I’ve previously discussed how much I appreciate women in menswear
, and I must admit that Ashley is one of the best in the game!
As always, thanks for reading and hopefully this inspires you to experiment with a full cut trouser.
