The weather is warming up on the west coast so that means it’s loafer season. And since we’re still in the early days of Spring, I thought it would be the perfect time to introduce some different loafer styles.
Driving moccasins, driver mocs, or just plain ol’ drivers are one of the best casual shoe styles to wear during the warmer months. So here is one way to rock them this Spring!
Driving moccasins were created in the early 1960s to accommodate European sports car owners. Sports cars from that era had very small interiors and even smaller pedals. Therefore, switching gears could be very difficult to do if your shoes were bulky and heavy.
Fortunately, driving moccasins offered a better alternative because of it’s sleek design. The rubber soles also helped provide a better grip and pedal feel.
Since then, the design has not changed much at all.
In fact, men were actually going sock-less with them back then as well. This was because the inside of the shoe is all leather and it absorbs the moisture, unlike cheap synthetic materials.
In my opinion, driving moccasins are meant to be a little bolder in color. Consider shades of blue, green, or even red. I went with a classic navy because it’s more versatile and suitable for my wardrobe. However, a bold color can easily provide that ubiquitous pop of the color!
Furthermore considering pairing them with a slim pair of trousers or jeans that don’t have much of a break. They can also be worn with a casual suit cut from a light fabric like cotton or linen.
Shorts also pair well with drivers, especially during those hot summer days!
