My Top 5 Style Mistakes

One of the most common pieces of advice that I offer when it comes to men’s style is to just keep it simple!

I’ve been following this method for years and it’s never let me down. However, I haven’t always believed in the concept that less is more. In fact, I was notorious for doing too much. Such as wearing tie clips, lapel pins, pinky rings, big watches and even yellow corduroy pants. Sad to say, I think I actually incorporated all of those things into just one outfit.

So in an effort to provide a good laugh and save you from making the same mistakes that I’ve made, here are my top 5 style mistakes!

I experimented with some layering all for the love of waistcoats —>

I could honestly say that I definitely took the layering trend a little too far with this one. It was obviously a cold day snowy day in Buffalo and I probably would have been much warmer if I just wore a coat.

I don’t know what I was thinking by wearing those white jeans in the snow either, SMH!

This look actually isn’t that bad but I would never wear a button-down collar shirt with a tie anymore, and I’m almost positive that I won’t wear that tie again either because it’s just too busy. I also don’t know why I never actually wore my fedora hat correctly. I honestly think it was just too small.

Bright yellow trousers?…why not

I remember when I found these yellow corduroys on sale at JCPenney for only $7. I was so excited to wear them even though they were way too tight (and bright) for me. This is the downfall of wearing things just because they are trendy or on clearance. On the bright side (see what I did there), I got tons of compliments every time I wore them.

Floral tie, tie clip, and a brooch hanging weirdly under my pocket square.

What was I thinking!

This is really the epitome of trying too hard. There is nothing wrong with an extra accessory or two but anytime you have a brooch dangling from your chest, its time to reassess the situation.

Last but certainly not least, the infamous yellow corduroys again!

This is a perfect example of how not to wear bold patterns and colors. You should never try to wear both of them at the same time. This plaid blazer would have looked much better if it was paired with some dark blue denim or even my personal favorites, a crisp pair of white denim Levi’s. Unfortunately, those yellow corduroys would have looked much better if I just left them on the clearance rack.

As always, thanks for reading and feel free to leave some of your style mistakes in the comments below!

Yours truly,
