I’ve mentioned several times before that the fall is my favorite season for fashion and that’s mainly because I am obsessed with outerwear. However, since I’ve moved to California most of my heavier coats and jackets will probably remain in storage for most of the season.
Therefore, this utility jacket will definitely be in heavy rotation because of it’s lightweight design and olive green color.
I first introduced this jacket as part of my Fall Selects from the J.Crew Factory, and although I don’t own everything that I feature in my “Fall Selects Series”, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. Fortunately, my girlfriend surprised me with it as a gift.
You just gotta love a woman that’s considerate and pay’s attention!
The utility jacket also known as the M-65 field jacket has roots dating back to the Vietnam War. In fact, The M-65 is named for the year of its debut.
With Vietnam’s hot days and cold nights, soldiers needed a jacket that could keep them cool during the day, yet still insulate enough heat to stay warm during those cold nights.
Thats why it’s the perfect fall jacket for my current location.
Unfortunately, this patch did not come with the jacket.
I actually found it in a thrift store a couple of years ago but I held onto it because I knew it would be the perfect finishing touch.
Also, since this is a military inspired piece, I figured that a “Ruger Firearms” patch just seemed fitting!
Like most things, when it comes to wearing a utility jacket I like to keep it simple. Therefore, pairing it with a henley (also military inspired) in a neutral color and some dark blue denim is ideal.
Also, I always prefer wearing this jacket with boots.
For instance, try pairing it with some rough and rugged workwear boots like a pair of Wolverine 1000 Mile Boots. However, if you’re looking for a more casual option try these Rutland Chelsea Boots from Sebago.
As always, thanks for reading!
