Summer is definitely the ideal time to wear white leather sneakers, but if you’re like me you probably wear them all-year round. The good thing about wearing them is that they pair well with just about everything, even blazers. Unfortunately, the down side is that they can get dirty very easily.
Similar to my post on how to care for your dress shoes, it’s equally important to keep your white sneakers clean. So here is a quick guide on how I keep my white leather sneakers looking fresh with only a couple of household products!
There are tons of cleaning products on the market that can help “restore” your white sneakers. There are even some that repel water and stains. However, I like to use household products to get the job done. In fact, during my sneaker head days I always kept a pack of moist towelettes on deck, just in case of emergency!
Here are the list of supplies that you will need:
1. Shower Cleaner
2. Clean Rags (old t-shirt)
3. Laundry Detergent
Step 1: Remove the shoelaces
Step 2: Place shoelaces in a cup filled with water and detergent (50:50 mix)
Step 3: Spray a generous amount of shower cleaner around the entire shoe
Step 4: Scrub the shoes with your cleaning rag and apply more pressure to the dirtier areas
Step 5: Wipe off any excess lather and allow shoes to dry for 10-15 minutes
Step 6: Remove laces from the soapy water mix and allow time to dry (make sure your laces are completely dry before you put them back because they will get dirty even faster).
This method has always worked wonders for me and it keeps my white leather sneakers looking fresh. In fact, people are always surprised when I tell them that I use shower cleaner to get the job done. However, I think that’s the beauty of being resourceful and growing up in the hood and not being able to afford “official” sneaker cleaner!
As always, thanks for reading!
