Young Entrepreneur Spotlight: Ilbert Sanchez of Garçon Couture

I say it all the time but I can’t say it enough. Joining my fraternity back in 2011 was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Not only did it take my college social life to another level, but it also helped me build a pretty impressive professional network. Over the years, I’ve been able to connect with tons of like-minded individuals that continue to make huge strides in various industries, especially fashion.

Therefore, this leads me to the latest feature of the Young Entrepreneur Spotlight series. My fraternity brother Ilbert Sanchez and his business partner Jean G. Francillon are the Founders of Garçon Couture.

They recently celebrated the grand opening of their new showroom in Grand Central in NYC and they’re steadily taking the New York and Miami menswear scene by storm!

Sophistication in Every Stitch

dapper advisor-young entrepreneur spotlight-garcon couture-Ilbert Sanchez-2I love seeing young black men in the menswear industry, study the ins-and-outs of the tailoring business, develop their own style, and start their own project. It’s actually very inspiring as I continue to develop and manifest my own projects (more on that later).

With a close eye on quality and design, the Garçon Couture team help their clients create one-of-a-kind custom garments. Once you book an appointment at their New York or Miami location, you can choose everything from the fabrics, jacket lining, buttons, lapels, etc.

What I love most about these guys style and vision for their business is that they’re always looking to push the envelope and create something fresh and unique.

Which is not necessarily a quality you find in the old-world of custom suit makers.

“I earned my Associates Degree in Graphic Design from SUNY Cobleskill and a Bachelor’s Degree from The Fashion Institute of Technology in Graphic Design. After gaining 8 years of marketing experience and 5 years of experience in Fashion Design, Jean and I decided to launch the brand on Black Friday in 2016.”

“We were actually roommates back in college and shared the same passion for clothing and design. So once we took the time to learn more about the industry and perfect our crafts, we joined forces and started Garçon Couture.”

If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering where the name Garçon Couture came from and what it means. However, it is actually simple and straight to the point, which is essential for marketing and branding.

Garçon is french for man and couture is french for fashion.

Excellence In Every Thread

“One of our goals for the brand is to expand globally. We currently have showrooms in Miami and NYC but we also want to start making clothes for people all over the world. It would also be ideal to design suits for athletes, celebrities, and other public figures.”

“In terms of our vision, we pride ourselves on being able to execute our client’s imagination. We can design a custom suit from any of our 800+ fabrics for any occasion. We also have a wide selection of men’s accessories to really make your outfit pop.”

I always ask fellow entrepreneurs to share some advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and this is some of the realest advice I’ve heard in a while!

“You will lose a lot of friends because they won’t understand your dreams or your entrepreneurial spirit but try not to take it personal. You will also run into a million obstacles and you might even end up broke, but you can’t let that stop you either.”

“The goal is to keep on moving forward despite the hardships because once you understand your purpose, you will have no choice but to keep on pushing. Use me for an example. I’ve failed and got rejected several times, but here I am today with a showroom in the heart of New York City. I realized I had to make my own door because no one else was going to open one for me.”
