One of the most common questions that I get when it comes to thrift store shopping is, when is the best time to go?
Fortunately, in this situation the old adage of the early bird gets the worm is a major key.
I always say it’s best to go as early as possible and this is for several reasons. Firstly, most thrift stores restock their shelves before they even open their doors. Secondly, the online reselling business is very competitive. Therefore, it should be in your best interest to get there before the other resellers.
Another way to be most efficient with your time is to create a thrift store route before you leave the house. I usually go to the closest thrift stores first and then drive out to the furthest location on my route. Then depending on the time, I might even visit the first few stores again because they might have brought out some new stuff.
Now I know that this might sound like a lot work and a lot of miles, but like most things, consistency (and frequency) is key. Ironically, this same rule applies to thrift store shopping.
Since I am a full-time reseller, I usually follow this routine at least 4 times a week. However, it is very rare that I go an entire day without hitting at least thrift store!
The Best Times To Go Thrift Store Shopping
In terms of the best days to go, I think Saturdays are the best days to go for several different reasons. Firstly, garage sales and yard sales usually happen during the weekend and whatever doesn’t sell usually gets donated to thrift stores. Therefore, you have a better chance of getting a lot of great pieces in one day.
Secondly, most thrift stores run their sales during the weekends. For instance, my local Goodwill always run their clothing sales on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So that is the perfect time to buy inventory at an even better price!
Speaking of sales, that is another great time to visit a thrift store. Most thrift stores, have a day of the week that certain products on sale. That is why it is so important to talk to the staff and ask those type of questions. After all, being friendly and genuine with others are character traits that everyone should aspire to possess.
As always, thanks for reading (and watching) and good luck on your next trip to the thrift!
