This is the time of the year when you see more men wearing shoes without socks. Some people despise it while others, like myself, consider it to be a normal part of my spring/summer routine. However, there are a few things to consider before going sockless, so here is a simple guide on how to execute the trend correctly.
Get a Pedicure
Taking care of your feet should always be a priority and I should have included it on my post on how to boost your confidence, but getting a pedicure is definitely an necessity if you decide to go sockless. Not only will your feet feel and look better, but you will also feel more confident once you take your shoes off. However, if you’re one of those guys that refuse to visit a spa or a nail shop, I suggest that you at least invest in a quality toe nail clipper and a ped-egg.
Invest in Shoe Trees
I mentioned this in my post on how to care for your dress shoes, but using shoe trees are essential if you decide to go sockless. Shoe trees soak up the moisture and sweat that will inevitably occur if you’re going sockless, and by absorbing the moisture it will also lower the risk of having stinky shoes.
Lotion Your Feet
This might be seem like a no-brainer, but you would be surprised at the amount of times I’ve seen guys going sockless but forgot to lotion their feet. Nothing ruins a nice sockless outfit quicker than having ashy feet.
Sometimes going sockless is too much of a commitment, and it can be very uncomfortable if you’re wearing the wrong shoes. Therefore wearing no-show socks can be a great alternative to pulling off the look without having to compromise your comfort.
Choose Softer Leathers
Going sockless can be extremely uncomfortable if you’re wearing shoes that are constructed from a tough and rigid leather, so make sure that your shoes are already broken-in or it is constructed from a softer leather.
Let Em Breathe
Avoid wearing the same shoes two days in a row because shoe trees can only do so much in terms of soaking up the moisture. Therefore, it’s important to let your shoes breathe so that the moisture doesn’t damage the leather. I would also suggest, not going sockless two days in a row either, unless its laundry day and you don’t have a choice.
Use a Shoe Horn
Last but certainly not least, putting on your shoes without socks can definitely be a struggle. Therefore, in order to make your life easier you should invest in a quality shoe horn.
